Thank you for your warm welcome, and a very enjoyable week in your extremely comfortable and well appointed cottage.

Aberystwyth is worth a vesit with good views at the top of the funicular railway. Gigrin Farm Red Kite Feeding Centre is amazing and Devil’s Bridge is very good- but pick a dry day.

Thanks again for the generous welcome pack delicious cake, and Sasha enjoyed her biscuits.

Immaculately clean – could not fault. So comfy beds. Lovely views from property. Elan Valley a must. Claerwen Dam had a spectacular walk on the byway (top of dam). Old mountain roads are stunning. Powis Castle also lovely too. Brilliant walk from Pen Y Garreg to Craig Goch, really lovely to have a full size fridge/freezer, especially as staying for 2 weeks. Dressing tables us both bedrooms very nice too- thank you.

(A comment left by one of our younger guests.)

Thanks for a lovely week at Elan Cottage. We thought it was lovely how there was hot chocolate, teas, coffee, sugar, cake, milk. The kitchen we thought was very well equipped. It was very nice how there was films, books and games to play.

It is a lovely view from outside looking across the fields, it was also spectacular view from the main bedroom. It was a relief not to have to take a bag of wet towels and flannels home with us because there was towels and flannels here.

There is stunning views from the top of the hill just be careful coming down as it is very steep and bumpy and you can very badly hurt yourself.

Thanks again,

Louise, Charlie, Emily and Jess.

Great cottage! We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I loved the early morning display on the bird feeder outside the kitchen window. So many birds.

Red Kite feeding centre is well worth a visit. The Elan Valley dams are very interesting.

Took the kids to Zip World which gave us chance to explore further afield.

Thank you for a lovely stay!

Well-presented cottage with stunning views from every window – superbly well located for mid-Wales; Elan Valley, Welsh west coast and Snowdonia. Information packs really useful and Adrian a font of knowledge on
local attractions, including shaded walks during a heatwave!

Elan Valley, Hafod Estate, Hafren Forest, Gilfach reserve and Aberdovey all worth a visit – enjoyed by the dog as much as the humans!

A wonderful stay – many thanks.

Day 1. Fabulous day at Red Kite feeding centre in Rhayader & visit to Elan Valley visitor centre to plan cycle trip.

Day 2. Cycled Elan Valley. One day not enough so will do more later in the week.

Day 3. Aberystwyth via Devil’s Bridge. Nice day and the cliff railway is essential. Or if you are energetic walk up the path.

Day 4. Gilfach nature reserve walk. Look for rock carvings, picnic at old farm building. Take plenty of water if hot, about 3.5 miles. Llandrindod Wells in afternoon for a relaxing cuppa and piece of cake and Victorian fronted shops. Call at Aldi for food and wine.

Day 5. Back to Elan Valley 20 mile circular cycle ride to top of valley and return via Rhayader. Lovely day and finished at Elan Visitor Centre for tea and a piece of cake.

A lovely holiday in a fantastic location. Thank you to Adrian & Grace – perfect hosts & accommodation is superb.

Great stay and thank you for making us feel so welcome in this super cottage. Grace & Adrian went the extra mile, lovely eggs, dog treats & bara brith. Thank you.

We spent the week walking in Elan Valley & surrounds – stunning.

Grace suggested we visited Gilfach nature reserve – what a place – dog (on lead) friendly.

Take care if you attempt the walk at Llangurig out of the Kittiwake book – signs have gone & 3 farms with dogs.

Thanks again for everything.

Mike & Sue.

Elan 16th October 2021

Thank you Grace and and Adrian for the welcome treats and for being so helpful.

We’ve enjoyed the the cottage, which is excellent. So well equipped; and and love the view thru our kitchen window and the daily visits of the sheep.

The area around is absolutely superb: the Elan dams spectacular, the Llyn Clywedog dam & lead mine ruins were very interesting. Lots of tearooms in the area. Lovely historical buildings in Llanidloes. We found people about were so friendly. Several trails on the Wye Valley walk, where we spotted a red kite soaring above us, were favourites.

Our last day here was spent at Gilfach Nature Reserve towards Rhayader & was unforgettable. Well worth a visit. The views from the top were superb! The weather has been unbelievably good for October. We’d definitely like to return to this lovely part of Wales.

Love – John & Marion.

Elan 17th September 2021

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Elan cottage. Everything has been lovely. The cottage is cosy and comfortable. It is ideally day situated for exploring the local area.

We went to Gigrin to see the red kites being fed. We also went to the Elan Valley. On the last day we went to Brecon, then up in the National Park where we saw several more Red Kites, always an inspiring sight.

We shall return home with many happy memories, Maria to Plymouth and myself to the Staffordshire Moorlands.

By the way, we do have a very few red kites in the moorlands and hope they will increase in time.

Thank you for everything.

Mary and Maria.

Such a lovely Cottage in lovely surroundings. Thoroughly enjoyed our week here!
Very welcome tea, coffee, cake & milk provided on arrival. Beautiful fresh eggs too which were a treat. Buddy loved his doggy pack treats too!

We visited Elan Valley – stunning + very close, Hafod Estate, Hafren Forest and Gilfach Nature reserve. All beautiful with amazing walks and views to behold.

We had takeaways from Raj Mahal & Evans Fish & Chips – both delicious & stayed hot. Drinks at the Mount Inn of an evening were good.

Overall a great time had – thank you so much! 🙂

We have had an absolutely fantastic stay at Elan Retreat & have fallen in love with the cottage. The cottage is lovely & clean and has everything you need.

We enjoyed exploring the local area & can recommend visiting Merlin Meirion Mill, Bryntail Lead Mine buildings, a highlight was visiting all of the Dams! Amazing views! Devil’s Budge & waterfalls is also stunning… not far on is Aberystwyth and is well worth a visit to see the Castle & have some lovely seafood.

Thank you so much Grace and Adrian for a lovely peaceful stay and we hope to see you again some time soon.

Elan 28th August 2021

Thank you for a comfortable stay in Elan Cottage. We appreciated the lovely details and having the sheep & birds for company.

Places we explored were: Elan Valley, we will have to return in the winter to see dams overflowing. The open day was interesting, thanks for the tip, Adrian! Great biking and play area.

We loved the gardens at Powis Castle and the interiors are very impressive. The Yew Walk is amazing.

The Centre for Alternative Technologies near Machynlleth was an interesting diversion for half a day – great vege café and the kids loved the funicular. We stopped at the beach at Borth at low tide to explore the petrified forest.

Gilfach nature reserve was beautiful today with heather and harebells at their best.

Elan 7th August 2021

Two mad Marilyn baggers enjoyed a good holiday at this cottage. Thanks to Adrian and Grace for a comfortable and well equipped cottage to rest our weary legs. Some excellent walks in better than expected weather. A highlight being the ascent of Pumlumon Fawr from the Nant-Y-Moch reservoir. A recommended walk for moderate level hiking (small amount of navigational skill could be required in poorer conditions). The ill-advised extension to Banc Llechwedd-Mawr only recommended to those of stern disposition and a high threshold for pain! For those who enjoy a full body-taxing fight through waist-high bracken, tackling Carn Gefallt will tickle that particular urge. More sensibly an ascent of Garreg-Lwyd gives nice views of both the hills and valleys and for wind turbine enthusiasts (I joke not – it was quite interesting and a straight-forward road most of the way). Overall a very enjoyable holiday and unusually for Wales, no requirement for waterproof trousers!

Peter and Angharad.

Elan 10th July 2021

What an amazing cottage! Well equipped and very cozy. Beautiful views framed from the windows.

Lots to see and do in the surrounding area. Really pretty countryside, even in the rain – so much better in the sunshine!

Elan Valley a must, and a great day in Aberystwyth.

Thanks to Grace & Adrian who are the perfect hosts.

Millie our border collie enjoyed her stay and thanks for the treats left.

Elan 12th June 2021

Thank you for a great week at Elan Cottage – we felt very well looked after and really loved the eggs!

Beautiful surroundings ad amazing field to the side, and gorgeous flowers around the cottages.

We loved Rhayader – very nice pool, park and shops (and ice cream!) The kites were great.

Aberystwyth not far away with lots to do, and pony trekking was a highlight (Lion Royal Inn).

Thank you!

Elan 29th May 2021

A quiet relaxing break (and to celebrate a birthday) away from Birmingham. Weather has been mixed although oddly our best day was probably our first tour of Elan Valley when it was pretty miserable. We are very Covid conscious so brought all our food with us and didn’t eat out anywhere although we had an ice cream at Ynyslas (Borth) and got a delicious wholemeal loaf from the PO + shop at Llangurig.

We’ve had a lovely stay in a warm, comfy home from home with everything we could need. Thank you Grace & Adrian for the delicious eggs! I’m going to miss the clean air!

Laurence, Heather & Jo.

Elan 15th May 2021

Thank you Adrian & Grace for your warm welcome. The cottage is very well equipped and spotlessly clean with such attention to detail, we so enjoyed the welcome pack especially the bara brith – yum!

We enjoyed exploring the local area , we loved the Elan Valley, Gilfach nature reserve, river walks to Rhayader and the beautiful gardens at Powis Castle. There’s loads more to explore and we would have to come again as the cottage is perfect, even having its own wildlife with birds feeding by the windows all day – fabulous!

Paul & Wendy.

P.S. Thanks for the eggs too!

Elan 10th April 2021

How fortunate I was, to discover Wye View and Elan Cottage was open to visitors after a long spell of going nowhere:- what a perfect place to spend some time away from ‘it’ all and in the most hospitable of circumstances.

Myself and my 2 grandchildren (10 & 5) have thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING that Adrian & Grace have to offer here. Thank-you both so much, for such a warm and heartfelt welcome.

I am fairly certain we will visit again.

Linda, Mackai & Aran.

Elan 16th September 2020

Thank you very much for a wonderful cottage to enjoy our stay in Mid Wales. Walk to the source of the Severn, Gentleman’s Walk and a long walk around one of the reservoirs made the stay memorable. The fantastic weather helped. But returning to a cottage was the icing on the cake.

It was the small things in the cottage like the torch which made it extra special.

John & Karen

And Izzy (I loved the garden and field and the biscuits you put out for me. XX)

Elan 12th September 2020

Thank you for all you have done to make our stay so enjoyable. Arriving at a spotlessly clean cottage immediately made us feel at ease. Everything you could need is here and extras like milk, biscuits, cake etc. were a lovely surprise and so tempting we ate them all!

We will definitely recommend Wye View Cottages to anyone who asks about accommodation in Mid Wales. Thank you for housing our bikes in a safe place too.

John and Veronica.

Elan 5th September 2020

Thank you both for a wonderful stay at Elan Retreat. The cottage is lovely, clean and comfortable with everything you could need. A nice touch is to have a few basics on arrival like milk, tea, coffee, biscuits etc.

We have not been to visit Mid Wales before but we have had a fabulous time exploring Elan Valley, Aberystwyth.

Our dog Ralphy has also had a great time exploring Wales. We would definitely recommend Wye View to our friends. A great choice for all!

Thank you once again!

Louise, Iain, Elanor & Ralphy – cockerpoo!

Elan 22nd August 2020

We all fell in love with the cottage, well-equipped and absolutely spotless.

Enjoyed The Devil’s Bridge and Gilfach nature reserve – the dog trotted up the hills and steps like a mountain goat!

Our favourite day out was the Aberdyfi beach; a real unspoilt gem and we even had some sunshine whilst watching a storm at sea.

Good meal at the Crown Inn Rhayader and also a tasty takeaway from Mirchi (but huge portions!)

Had a windy kayaking tour at Elan Valley, hard work but well worth it to get so close to the dam.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Wye View.

Elan 14th September 2019

Thank you Grace & Adrian.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Elan Cottage again, as we have stayed here several times.

This being our 40th Wedding Anniversary was a very special stay, revisiting places like Elan Valley, Gilfach nature reserve and Corris Craft. Loved to see the chickens outside the kitchen window, and they lay fantastic eggs which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Elaine & Phil (+Breeze & Wilfred).

Elan 17th August 2019

Thank you Grace – what a perfect place to stay! Your attention to detail left us wanting for nothing. We used this lovely cottage to explore the Elan Valley + will certainly recommend Elan Cottage to our friends and family. The level of quality was spot on, lovely comfortable beds, nice linen, carpets + towels. Kitchen has everything needed for a 3 night stay.

We really enjoyed the Vale of Rheidol train to Aberystwyth – spectacular views through the stunning countryside. This was matched by the scenery and views through the Elan Valley and the 5 reservoirs / dams – another MUST SEE for all.

Ate at the Triangle Inn twice for dinner and LOST ARK cafe for lunch – both highly recommended. All in all a perfect 3 days despite all the rain in Mid August.

Will be back!

Keith & Val.

Elan 9th August 2019

We had a great stay in the cottage. Grace gave us a lovely welcome and information about the area. We had a great walk at Elan Valley, with a nice lunch at the tearoom. The kite feeding at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian was impressive, the birds stayed for a long time after the feeding. Grace suggested Hafod for a nice walk and great views and it was fabulous!

Thanks for everything.

Wil, Sjaak, Jan & Gianne.

Elan 4th January 2019

Great base for exploring Mid Wales and the coast. The walk by Llyn Clywedog (as per leaflet in folder) was lovely – about the right length for our 7 + 10 year olds.

Elan Valley visitor centre was a warm haven in between nature trails. Aberdovey beach was busy on New Year’s Day. It was bright and relatively warm, even mild enough for ice cream.

Elan is cosy and well equipped – thank you for your hospitality.

Gill, Jimmy, Anna, Zeb.

Old Swan Cafe in Rhayader really good for food and cakes. Nice curry at Raj Mahal. Glengower Hotel at the North End of Aberystwyth was great. We only went in because we were so cold but good food & beer. Druid Inn at Goginan on the way to Aber is a good pub. 43 years in the Good Beer Guide!

Here, the kitchen is the best equipped of any self-catering place I’ve stayed in.

Enjoy!

Jimmy.

Super stay in Elan cottage comfy beds and great places to explore. The Triangle in Rhayader does the best hot chocolates. We also went to Rhayader swimming pool which was great fun and walking around the dams it was a bit chilly but still amazing views.

My favourite place we went to was Aberdovey beach where we had ice creams even though it was cold.

From Anna.

Elan 2nd June 2018

Such a fantastic, cosy, comfy cottage. We have had a really lovely week here and even the weather played ball. The welcome tray was a lovely touch, the cake went down a treat.

Adrian and Grace were great hsots and were very kind to leave a bottle of water, lighter and a kettle when we woke up to a power cut and no water.

Will miss the beautiful views.

Also thank you for the bag of dog treats for Domino 🙂

Abby, Adrian, Ross, baby bump + Domino

Elan 1st May 2018

This, our second visit here, was just as warm and welcoming as our first.

A very welcoming hospitality tray, including dog’s nibbles and help and information from Grace & Adrian.

Cottage spotless & whole accommodation worth the 4 stars it has been awarded. Plus the eggs!

Beautiful surroundings and great walks within a fairly short distance.

We may well be here again, inshallah!

Geoff & Janet, Portia.

Elan 3rd April 2018

Thank you for a very comfortable stay in a beautifully kept cottage. Amazing views over the valley! A bonus to wake up to a “snowy” scene in April!!

A special thank you for looking after Bonnie whilst we ventured to Corris for a trip to King Arthur’s caves.

We will definitely recommend “Wye View”.

Kate, Chris, Luke, Daniel and Bonnie the dog.

PS: it was very warm and cosy – Daniel.

Dear Adrian 7 Grace,

Very many thanks for a wonderful weekend. The cottage was a lovely surprise – spotlessly clean, comfortable beds & a much appreciated welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits & milk – thank you!! We’ve enjoyed seeing the birds and sheep (and hens!) outside our windows.

We can highly recommend Hafod for walks (turn left at Devil’s Bridge) & the Angel Hotel in Llanidloes for dinner – it was fabulous but book a table!!

It’s been a really great visit – thank you!!

Sue, Paul, Jonny & Esteban.

Elan 28th August 2017

We have thoroughly enjoyed our long Bank Holiday weekend in Elan Cottage. It is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We were made to feel so welcome with coffee, tea and biscuits. Even our dog got a goodie bag. 🙂

Thank you for your advice and suggestions for things to do in the area. Our favourites were Brecon Beacons, Devil’s Bridge and Elan Valley.
